Smoothies and Popsicles

Anybody else LOVE a good smoothie? I do, as does every kid I know - if they don’t like smoothies, just call it a milkshake (and add some frozen yogurt or a little ice-cream..sshhhh).

Whenever I make smoothies I eyeball/ create them based off what I have in the fridge/freezer. They are a great way to use up fruit you might otherwise throw out. ANNND bonus, extra smoothie can be used for delicious popsicles!!!

Ingredients:

1-2 cups frozen fruit (or a mix of fresh and frozen)

½ cup liquid  - water/milk/orange juice

1 Tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

1 handful of spinach or kale (optional)

Method:

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender or nutri- bullet.

  2. Blend until smooth.

**Add more fruit if you prefer a thicker smoothie or liquid for thinner!

Tips:

  1. Extra smoothies can be frozen as pops using this mold. I love this one for smaller kids but any work really. Just pour into molds and freeze overnight. Run a hot tap over it to loosen and get them out.

  2. I love my nutribullet here but any blender will work.

  3. For the liquid: orange juice has a lot of sugar, I try not to add it but sometimes will just do a splash with water and/or milk!

  4. If you have extra fresh fruit DO NOT THROW IT OUT!!! Wash it and put it in a tupperware/container in the freezer. Use straight from frozen in smoothies!!

    1. Bananas: Peel before freezing.

    2. Strawberries: Wash, hull and cut up before freezing.

    3. Raspberries/Blueberries: Wash and freeze.

    4. Spinach: Wash and freeze.
